Marine Tracker

Postby PAR on Wed Aug 15, 2012 3:33 pm

I was told about this several weeks ago,and I`ve found it fascinating to track shipping movements on the River Humber. You can zero in on any port in the world ,although its supposed to only show merchant ships ,I have spotted a couple of naval vessels. You can click on the vessels symbol and it gives you the name speed course ,and most times a photo.

The AIS site is pretty good, I pop in every now and again.

I`m intriqued at what H8_ S)TAKNIXZ is in block 1 in the southern ocean, its travelling at 76.8 knots
But it`s also on the ice and stationary :?:

A little forward planning, saves a red face later!

I do use the site quite a lot to identify ships that I can see going up and down the coast from my living room - quite interesting.
